Keegan returns to Eamonn Deacy Park

Shane Keegan took charge of Cobh Ramblers last week

"I am, very much so," Cobh Ramblers manager Shane Keegan responds when asked about whether he is looking forward to returning to Eamonn Deacy Park.

Former Galway United boss Keegan took charge of Cobh Ramblers last week and is encouraged to be back operating in the SSE Airtricity League.

"I have said it before, it broke my heart that things didn't work out better for me at Galway because the people involved with the club were absolutely tremendous," Keegan remarks.

"I would have given anything for that time at the club to have worked out better. In that first season the small, small margins between staying up and not staying up really were so slim. It could have been a very different tale had one or two things gone our way.

"Even parting with the club; I did part on very good terms. I was dealt with correctly by the people on the board when it came to parting so there is certainly no sour grapes there.

"I'm really looking forward to heading back up to see some old faces some I have been in contact with over the few years."

Keegan is optimistic that Cobh can finish the campaign strongly and is relishing this month's FAI Cup tussle against Cork City.

"It is going to take, at least, until the end of July before we all start to become familiar with each other and know how to co-exist before we get everything in place off the field that I'd like to have as well as getting a few recruits in maybe on the field," Keegan adds.

"It is definitely a case of Rome wasn't built in a day, but to be fair to the board they very much understood that too.

"It is a really nice one to have at the end of July, we have Cork in the FAI Cup, I'd be disappointed in myself if I didn't have everything running at full throttle and everything I wanted in place by the time we come to that stage.

"That is a massive game and a really tough one against a team that is arguably the best side in the division so far."
