Venetian Bookends to open Music For Galway season

VENICE’S QUARTETTO di Venezia and pianist Alberto Nosè, from the province of Veneto - the capital of which is Venice - play NUI, Galway’s Aula Maxima on Thursday September 18 at 8pm.

While the musicians are all Italian, the music they will play on the night is unquestionably German, specifically German Romanticism. The programme focuses exclusively on Brahms’ String Quartet Op 52 no 2, Piano Quintet Op 34 in F minor, and Op 119 for solo piano.

Alberto Nosè was the winner of First Prize, Gold Medal and Sony Audience Prize of the 15th Paloma O’Shea International Piano Competition of Santander (Spain ) in 2005.

He first gained recognition at the age of 11, taking First Prize in the Jugend für Mozart International Competition in Salzburg, thanks to which he held his first concert tour around Italy, Austria and France.

He went on to win numerous prizes at prestigious international piano competitions. From these successes was born an acclaimed career, which has taken him all over the world.

The Quartetto di Venezia was formed by four Venetian musicians who share a passion for “one of the highest expressions of European music civilisation”. They have performed at venues all over Italy, Europe, the Americas, Japan, and the Middle East.

The next concert is with Valeria Mignaco (soprano ), Alfonso Marín (lute ), and Adrian Manto (cello ), at the Aula Maxima, NUIG, September 30.

Tickets are €20/16/6 from Music for Galway (091 - 705962 or [email protected] ) and Opus II, St Augustine Street.
