Galway United will face an away clash against Bluebell United in the first round of the FAI Cup.
Victor Collins’ Salthill Devon, who recently claimed the Galway FA premier division title, host Malahide United at the same stage.
The games will take place on the week ending July 31 and United manager John Caulfield is aware of the task ahead.
“It is a different challenge, I'm used to having teams playing non league teams, but I have also been a non league manager playing League of Ireland teams,” Caulfield says.“It is nice to end up playing a team that isn't in your league. Having to go away to Bluebell, who always have a tradition of being a huge non league club, one of the biggest clubs around Dublin with a lot of ex League of Ireland players.”
Between now and then United have six SSE Airtricity League first division matches to negotiate. “Closer to the time we will prepare properly for the match,” Caulfield adds. “I always say that in the cup - in one game - that shocks can happen. You have to be ready for it, but from our own point of view we will deal with it when we get there.
“Bluebell were in the Intermediate Cup final, they lost to Rockmount so I will have a fair bit of information on them. We will look forward to the game when it comes about.”
