Burkeway Homes acquires new development site and teams up with Ability West to bring new homes and services to Galway city

Galway property developer Burkeway Homes' latest acquisition is a 6.5 acre site on the west side of Galway city where it plans to build a mixed development of 82 homes together with Ability West facilities including a day care centre.

The site on the Letteragh Road is excellently located, being very close to Burkeway Homes' previous developments at Sliabh Ríoga and Breacan and just 300 metres beyond its projects currently under construction at Fanán and The Blake.

A planning application for the scheme was submitted to Galway City Council earlier this month seeking permission for the development. It will consist of 53 houses and includes a variety of three and four bed terraced homes, three and four bed semidetached houses, a four bed detached house, and 14 apartments. There will be a further eight duplex homes and seven individual units specially designed for Ability West on its adjoining property.

Ability West is a Galway based registered charity that has been providing services and supports to children and adults with intellectual disability and comorbidities for 60 years. This joint project will incorporate modern purpose built facilities in two separate buildings, carefully designed to meet the needs of Ability West. There is an accommodation block and an activity block containing assisted living facilities.

Michael Burke, managing director of Burkeway Homes, said: “We are delighted and excited to be bringing 82 more quality homes to the local market as well as working with our neighbour Ability West to jointly deliver these much needed facilities to the Galway area.”

As well as the community gain through the Ability West facilities, the proposed development is beautifully designed and landscaped that will complement the area and blend into the local environment. The plans submitted include a children’s playground, kickabout areas, an all weather playing surface, a sensory garden, walking loop routes, and small pocket gardens and relaxation areas.

Subject to a satisfactory grant of planning permission, Burkeway Homes hopes to commence the development in the later part of this year.
