Éirí for a musical odyssey

Luminosa String Orchestra to play Dowland, Kinsella, Vivaldi, Janacek, and McKay at St Nicholas’

TWO CONCERTS will take place in Galway this year - one is themed around journeys, the other around transformation, and both come under the overall theme of Éirí - arise.

Luminosa Music has announced details of its 2022 concert season Éirígí - Aistear/Odyssey on March 20 and Athrú/Transformation on September 22.

“We are going to bring our audiences on a musical odyssey,” said Lucy Heyward, the executive director of Luminosa Music, “contemplating the significance of the centenary of the publication of Joyce’s Ulysses, and how our personal journeys can be our own masterpieces.”

The Sunday March 20 concert will take place in St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church at 7.30pm. It will feature the Luminosa Strings Orchestra [pictured above], led by Paul Ezergailis and conducted by Sinéad Hayes, performing works by John Dowland; John Kinsella’s Nocturne; Vivaldi’s Double Cello Concerto with soloists Adrian Mantu and Alona Kliuchka; Janacek’s Suite for Strings; and Meltwater by Deirdre McKay.
