The Opacas new single, ‘Bye Bye’, out today

Video features Knocknacarra Amateur Theatre Society and Athenry Drama Group, choreographed by Declan J Gardiner

TODAY, THURSDAY March 10, sees the release of the new single and video by the Galway/Leeds pop-rock band, The Opacas.

The new single, ‘Bye Bye’, is out now on all streaming platforms and YouTube and the video for the song just might be the quartet’s most ambitious yet - it is certainly theri zaniest - involving a full dance troupe performing a routine on the Salthill prom.

The song features Ivor Curley and John Hearns on saxophones, while the video saw The Opacas team up again with the Knocknacarra Amateur Theatre Society and Athenry Drama Group, while choreography was by Declan J Gardiner.

“We always had an ambition to do a full-on dance video like High School Musical and the happy up-beat vibe of ‘Bye Bye’ gave us the perfect vehicle to do it,” said keyboardist, Peter Tobin.

Declan rehearsed the dance routine with the band and assembled actors in the Galway Bay Hotel before heading out onto the Prom - in the middle of storm Eunice - to perform and film it. “We got soaked doing the prom dance parade,” said vocalist Steve Talbot, “but at least we had the place to ourselves.”

While on the Prom the band met the great Galway photographer Chaosheng Zhang, who made a cameo appearance in the video. His photos are being used for the single artwork.
