Jewellery and cosmetics taken in burglary
Sometime between 11am and 11pm on Saturday February 12 a house at Laurel Park, Newcastle was broken into. During the course of the break in a number of aftershave and perfume containers along with a number of items of jewellery including a Michael Kors watch were taken from the property.
Gardaí are asking anyone that may have been in the Laurel Park area on Saturday February 12 and may have seen anything unusual or anyone who may have any information in relation to the stolen items to contact them at Galway Garda Station on 091 538000.
On Tuesday February 15 at approximately 10.45am a house at Carnmore West, Carnmore was broken into.
Gardaí in Loughgeorge Garda Station are asking anyone who may have seen any person acting suspiciously in the Carnmore area on Tuesday February 15 or anyone any information in relation to the break in to contact them on Loughgeorge Garda Station on 091-798122 or Oranmore Garda Station on 091 388030.
Community alert signs stolen in county
Between December 2021 and January 2022 a number of Kilchreest/Castledaly community alert signs were stolen from a number of locations in the Kilchreest/Castledaly area.
Anyone with any information in relation to the theft of these road signs is asked to contact Gort Garda Station on 091-636400.
Between midnight and 6pm on Sunday February 13 a garden shed at the rear of a house at Laurel Park, Newcastle was broken into and a mountain bike was stolen.

Between 8pm on Thursday February 17 and 5am on Friday February 18 a White Kia Sportage was broken into while parked outside a property at Boireen Bheag, Roscam.
Anyone who may have noticed anything unusual in the Boireen Bheag area on Thursday night/Friday morning or who may have any information in relation to the break in is asked to contact Galway Garda Station on 091-538000.
Canney – PAYE workers should review their tax liabilities every year
Sean Canney, Independent TD for Galway East has urged PAYE workers to review their tax liabilities every year.
“The Minister for Finance has confirmed to me that in 2020, €390 million was refunded to PAYE taxpayers and so far, €57 million has been refunded for 2021 for overpayment of income tax,” he said.
“These figures demonstrate that many PAYE taxpayers are paying too much tax and not claiming their full entitlements in tax relief”.
“It is also important to note that PAYE taxpayer can review their tax deducted for a period of the previous 4 years”.
People who work and paying tax should take time to look at their expenses and outgoings as some of these expenses may be tax deductible.
“If people are working remotely, they can claim up to 30% of the cost of vouched expenses for heating, electricity and internet whilst working from home”.
“People can check all the entitlement on the Revenue on-line system and also make claims for tax relief by registering on “My Account” portal on the Revenue website”.
