A secondary school student in County Galway has established a new business which promotes West of Ireland products and taps into a nostalgia for parcels sent to Ireland by relatives in the USA.
Cormac Delaney, a fifth year student at Holy Rosary College, Mountbellew,with a keen interest in business, is taking part in the Student Enterprise Awards Programme for 2021-2022.
For this competition, Cormac has established an online gift box company, The Irish Parcel Company, which creates gift boxes containing a wide variety of Irish products from producers located along the Wild Atlantic Way.
Each box or 'parcel' is then individually hand-wrapped, tied, and stamped with a red wax seal, replicating the style of the old parcels sent by members of the Irish diaspora to relatives 'back home' in Ireland, a tradition which continued right up until the middle of the last century. All packaging used by The Irish Parcel Company is recyclable and/or biodegradable.

“The aim is to produce not just a gift box, but rather an experience,” says Cormac. “I wish to recreate the anticipation, expectation, and excitement that surrounded the parcels of old, and combine this joy and nostalgia with the magic, wonder, and wildness of Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way, to be enjoyed throughout Ireland. The perfect gift for all occasions; birthdays, anniversaries, Mother’s Day, Father's Day or to reconnect with friends.”
While Cormac’s current focus is “to succeed in the Student Enterprise Programme” and progress to the national finals, he is determined to further his business venture beyond the enterprise programme, and establish a unique Irish company in the gift box sector.
