Fianna Fáil Councillor Alan Cheevers has condemned the recent arson attacks on families in Castlepark, saying it is a deeply concerning development that has escalated sharply.
Gardaí in the city are appealing for witnesses following the latest arson incident, with an attack on a car and an incident of criminal damage caused to a house in the Castle Park area of Ballybane in Galway City on Sunday.
They received a report of criminal damage when the car was set on fire outside a house in the Castle Park area of Ballybane shortly before 11.30pm on Sunday, February 6.
A front window in the house was also broken around the same time. Four people were in the house at the time but were uninjured. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the Castle Park area yesterday evening between 10pm and midnight and who may have observed unusual activity in the area to make contact with them.
'Very serious situation'

Cllr Cheevers [pictured above] says if it continues, somebody is likely to be seriously injured. “I believe this is a very serious situation that needs to be de escalated before we have a fatality luckily nobody was hurt," he said. “The families got away without serious injuries from first two attacks but this may not be the case again, so we must see this stop.
“It is also deeply worrying for residents of Castlepark, many of whom have contacted me over the last few days,” he said adding that he has written to Superintendent Flanagan asking him to meet with councillor colleagues in Galway City East, to discuss this issue in more detail.
An Garda Síochána would like to talk to anyone who has video footage in this locality, including dash cam footage, covering a period from 10pm and midnight.
