Cllr Joe Byrne says speeding on country roads is becoming a major concern.
At Monday’s online meeting of the Galway County Council Joint Policing Committee, Cllr Byrne highlighted the problem.
“Speeding on our country roads is becoming a source of major concern, especially with more people out walking,” he said.
“Quite frankly, it is getting out of order - the speeding through towns and villages. It is a major issue we need to address.”
Responding to Cllr Byrne’s queries Chief Superintendent Tom Curley said: “I have all vacancies filled in roads policing - based in Tuam and our regional headquarters in Murrough.
“It is something we will put on the detail to carry out checks in villages.”
