Salthill clash with Mervue in FAI Junior Cup

It was a good week for Victor Collins' team

The FAI Junior Cup takes centre stage at the weekend with Salthill Devon hosting Mervue United in the fifth round at Drom on Sunday afternoon (2pm ).

It promises to be a particularly interesting encounter between two clubs eager to make an impact in the famous competition.

Seamie Crowe’s Athenry are also in action on Saturday afternoon when facing Regional United in Moonbaun.

Salthill proved too strong for Loughrea in the Galway FA premier division with Tommy McKeown 4, Lucas 2, Calym Crowe, Darren Craven, and Timmy Molloy all scoring for Victor Collins’ team. Thomas Hoban replied for Loughrea.

On Friday evening Galway Hibernians came from behind to defeat Tuam Celtic. Graham Fallon steered Tuam ahead, but Keith Ward and Nathan Ward replied for Stephen Walsh’s outfit.

Maree-Oranmore gleaned an important win over Colemanstown with Eoghan McDonagh rifling a hat-trick, while Malachy Black also scored for Brendan O’Connor’s side.
