Galway FA U18s reach Youth Inter League decider

Ollie Neary and Damien Brennan's team defeated Wexford

Ollie Neary and Damien Brennan's Galway FA U18 team will contest the FAI Youth Inter League final against Cork at Eamonn Deacy Park at the end of this month.

Saturday's 2-1 win over Wexford at the Dyke Road venue proved to be a morale boosting success for Galway.

Despite the dreadful weather conditions Eamonn Deacy Park was in good condition with Neary grateful that his improving team sampled action at the ground.

"We played very well in the first half against a very strong breeze, we created three or four half chances against a fairly strong Wexford team," Neary says.

"We were disappointed to go in at half-time a goal down. All we said at half-time, Damien Brennan and myself, was to stay patient."

Galway's perseverance was rewarded after the restart as goals from Alex Murphy and John Jordan proved decisive.

Another match at the Corribside venue now awaits in the decider with Neary encouraged. "Now that we have played there in the semi-final hopefully it will stand to them too."
