Sinn Féin housing spokesperson Eoin Ó Broin to visit Galway

TD to speak with council housing departments, the Land Development Agency, and local charities

Sinn Féin's housing spokesperson, Eoin Ó Broin TD, will visit Galway on Monday, February 7, for a series of engagements.

Dep Ó Broin will meet with representatives from both the Galway City Council and Galway County Council housing sections, as well as the Land Development Agency, and charities in the housing sector in Galway. The meetings will also be attended by SF Galway West TD, Mairéad Farrell.

Dep Farrell said the meetings are so she and Dep Ó Broin “can speak directly with those working to reduce the impact of the housing crisis”, and to plan for the future of housing in Galway.

.

She said the Government approach to the issue has failed as rents, house prices, and homelessness figures continue to rise.

"On a local level, over the past number of months we have seen a constant rise in both property prices and rents in Galway,” said Dep Farrell. “Once the pandemic eviction ban was lifted, we saw a dramatic increase in notices to quit. People in Galway deserve to feel secure in their accommodation, which will only happen when the right policies are in place.”

Sinn Féin has proposed doubling of direct capital investment in public housing to provide 20,000 public homes in a year, along with a ban on rent increases.
