The Dance - capturing a work from start to finish

New film explores the making and staging of Michael Keegan-Dolan’s MÁM

THE DANCE, the new film by Pat Collins, exploring the staging of a new dance work by choreographer Michael Keegan-Dolan, is coming to the Pálás Cinema.

The film, which is being released by Breakout Pictures, will be screened on Friday February 11, and will be followed by a Q&A with the director.

In this film, Pat Collins (Song of Granite, Silence ) explores the dance/theatre work, MÁM, choreographed by Michael Keegan-Dolan, from the first day of rehearsal to the opening night. MÁM brought virtuoso concertina player Cormac Begley, the European musical collective ‘s t a r g a z e’, and 12 international dancers to the remote Dingle Peninsula in Ireland and is a unique confluence between soloist and ensemble, classical and traditional, the local and the universal.

It was nominated for an Olivier Award for Best production in London, and was performed in Dublin, Australia, and New Zealand.
