Leisureland should be used as a venue to host in-person information workshops on the proposed cycle lanes development for Salthill.
This is the view of Fianna Fáil Galway City West councillor, John Connolly, who said the Galway City Council should consider this option following the ending of the majority of Covid restrictions on indoor gatherings.
“Many people are only now becoming aware of what the impact of the current cycleway proposal could be,” said Cllr Connolly. “I have been contacted by many who have expressed frustration with the online consultation process and a lack of clarity over the images contained in the online setting. I am asking the council to undertake a range of workshops in Leisureland over a one- or two-day period to facilitate the interested public on the matter. It would also allow city engineers to answer any queries the public might have.”

The council previously held similar workshops in the Galway City Museum when the Galway Bus Connects and Galway Cycling Network proposals were being discussed.
“These workshops were widely regarded as having been very successful,” said Cllr Connolly [pictured above]. “I also believe there would be some merit in extending the time for the public consultation on the current proposals which is due to end next weekend.”
