John Williams - a celebratory birthday concert

Hear music from Star Wars, Jaws, Indiana Jones, ET, Superman, and Harry Potter in Salthill

JOHN WILLIAMS, composer of some of the most memorable, iconic, and much loved film scores in all cinema history, will be celebrated in Galway with a concert marking his 90th birthday.

Williams, who has provided magnificent scores to Star Wars, Jaws, Indiana Jones, ET, Superman, and Harry Potter, to name just a few, turns 90 in 2022. To celebrate this great composer, Music for Galway has organised a concert featuring music from those films.

The concert takes place in Lesireland, Salthill, on Thursday February 10 at 8pm, with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, under conductor Stephen Bell.

The concert programme will see performances of the Star Wars theme, the Imperial March, Princess Leia’s theme, and the uplifting Throne Room finale. There will also be the menacing cello score from Jaws; exciting scores from Superman and Raiders of the Lost Ark; the flying theme from ET; the majestic main theme from Jurassic Park; and heartbreaking music from Schindler’s List. There will also be music from the Harry Potter films and Angela’s Ashes.

Stephen Bell enjoys a career as both a distinguished conductor and a French horn player. As a musician, he was involved in playing on the scores for Star Wars: Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, both recorded at Abbey Road with the London Symphony Orchestra.

He has been described by International Record Review as “one of the most gifted younger British conductors”, and is a regular and popular visitor with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.

Tickets are €30/27/26/15 via www.musicforgalway.ie or 091 - 569777.
