Galway piper releases debut solo album

Award winning musician Pádraic Keane explores popular and lesser known pieces from the repertoire

UILLEANN PIPER Pádraic Keane, from Maree, County Galway, a former TG4 Young Musician of the Year, has released his debut solo album - In Full Time.

The album features a mix of popular and lesser-heard tunes from the traditional repertoire. Inspiration is drawn from the music Keane learnt growing up, as well as from the piping tradition of the last two centuries. The music is performed on three sets of uilleann pipes made in the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries, which are detailed in the album notes along with insightful information on the tunes.

Keane won the 2011 TG4 Young Musician of the Year award; toured America as a soloist with The Irish Chamber Orchestra; and collaborated with Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin, The RTÉ Concert and Symphony orchestras; and toured Europe with Ragús and worked with An Taibhdhearc. He also performed at The Masters of Tradition festival in Bantry House, curated by Martin Hayes.
