VIVALDI’S OPERA Bajazet, a tense thriller set in a politically charged environment, will be performed in the Town Hall Theatre on Tuesday January 25 at 5pm.
Presented by Irish National Opera, in a co-production with the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Bajazet will feature the acclaimed Irish Baroque Orchestra, conducted by early music specialist Peter Whelan.
In Bajazet, powerful men and strong women negotiate their relationships as desires of the heart clash with rank and duty.
Italian bass-baritone Gianluca Margheri sings the title role; mezzo-sopranos Niamh O’Sullivan and Claire Booth are Asteria and Irene; Aoife Miskelly sings Idaspe, with counter tenors James Laing and Eric Jurenas as Tamerlano and Andronicus.
Bajazet is directed by Adele Thomas, with set and costume design by Molly O’Cathain and lighting design by Sinéad Wallace. The opera will be sung in Italian with English surtitles. Following Bajazet’s performances in Ireland, the production will travel to the Royal Opera's Linbury Theatre in 2022.
Tickets are available from the Town Hall (091 - 569777, www.tht.ie ).
