Three Galwegians compete for Glór Tíre winner 2022

New year sees a new format for TG4’s popular country music talent search show

THE NEW Year sees a new studio, set, and format for TG4’s popular reality country music talent search, Glór Tíre which reaches its milestone 18th season when it returns to TV screens on January 11.

Not only that, but three Galwegians - Katelyn Molloy, Deirdre Keane, and Rachel Goode - will be among the eight contestants taking part.

The new series was filmed in Studio 5, Cue One, in Claregalway, and will see leading Irish country singers, Johnny Brady, Ciarán Rosney, Olivia Douglas, and Mike Denver, mentor two contestants each. The overall Glór Tíre winner will receive a cash prize fund of €5,000, and join Mike Denver for a week of shows in Portugal in 2022.

Galway contestants, Katelyn Molloy and Deirdre Keane, will be mentored by Ciarán Rosney, while Ballinasloe’s Rachel Goode will be mentored by fellow Galwegian, Mike Denver.

The other contestants are Aishling Rafferty (Tipperary ), Rachel McConnell (Fermanagh ), Colin Kenny (Tipperary ), Tracy Brennan (Tyrone ), and Kenny Crawford (Donegal ). Resident judges Jo Ní Chéide and Caitriona Ní Shuilleabhain will be joined by guest judges, including journalist Eddie Rowley, and Irish country stars Mick Flavin, Susan McCann, and Louise Morrissey.

Initially, the judges will choose four contestants who are safe in the competition and four who will face a public live vote as part of the first elimination. Ultimately, five contestants will make it to the semi-final, with three going on to the final on February 22.

Viewers will also be able to win tickets to either the GAA football or hurling All Ireland Finals, seated in a corporate box, and overnight in Dublin at the Louis Fitzgerald Hotel and Joel’s Restaurant with dinner, bed, and breakfast for two people.
