Chair of the Green Party Pauline O’Reilly is aiming to double their numbers of elected representatives. Adressing members of the all-island Green Party on her first day as chair of the Party, O’Reilly outlined her intentions.
“I am absolutely delighted to have been elected to serve as your Chair of the Green Party/An Comhaontas Glas for the next two years,” she says. “It is an honour to take my place following the hard work of former chairs Hazel Chu, Roderic O’Gorman, Dan Boyle and John Gormley.
“We are achieving transformative change in Ireland. We need to pull up our sleeves and work together as a unified party in order to focus on tackling the climate and biodiversity emergency and building a more just society.”
Ms O’Reilly is hopeful that the Green Party can become a formidable force.
“We can double our number of elected representatives to 100 councillors with hard work and dogged determination,” she adds. “This is how we can best achieve our aims.
“My roles will include chairing management committee meetings and overseeing electoral and Party strategy. I want to offer my full support to all of those on the management committee as I take my place to serve the party. I will also sit on the executive of the party.
“I believe that the party can be strengthened by supporting inclusion and a diversity of voices working together, always with the best interests of the country at the centre of all that we do.”
