Darragh O’Dea - live in Tuam

Singer-songwriter marks launch of debut album with hometown show

DARRAGH O’DEA, the Tuam singer-songwriter, will celebrate the launch of his debut album, Tilly And The Postmaster, with a concert in his hometown.

Darragh, described by Hotpress as a “ brilliant storytelling songsmith”, will play The Mall Theatre, Tuam, on Saturday December 18 at 8pm.

Tilly And The Postmaster was released in October, and was named after and inspired by, the songwriter’s grandparents. It has been praised by Ruth Smith on RTE Radio 1’s Simply Folk, for its “great imagery and poetry”; while Folk Radio UK noted its “determination and depth”, and called it an album “for anyone who appreciates the power of music – to expose, to endure and in the end, to provide hope".

Tracks such as 'Guerrilla Warfare In Your Back Garden', 'Split The Difference (La Résistance )', and the title song, have received airplay on BBC Scotland and BBC Wales.

The album was recorded between Sunstreet Studios, Stable Productions, and Turf Shed Studio in Tuam, with Kenny Ralph, Mike Connolly, and Dylan Connolly. The album’s striking artwork was created by Mike O'Dwyer and was inspired by Aaron Douglas and the Harlem Renaissance.

Darragh’s indie-folk style is influenced by Kevin Morby, Billy Bragg, Bright Eyes, Christy Moore, and Willy Mason. He also draws on history and storytelling styles in his lyrics.
