€30,000 for improvements to footpaths and roads in Old Mervue

Footpaths and roads in the area have ‘deteriorated considerably’, says Cllr Terry O’Flaherty

A total of €30,000 in the 2022 Galway City Council budget has been secured for improvements to footpaths and roads in Old Mervue.

The funding was sought by the Independent Galway City East councillor Terry O’ Flaherty, who said the footpaths and roads had “deteriorated considerably”.

During one of the pre-budget meetings, Cllr O’Flaherty enquired from the council’s Chief Executive, Brendan McGrath, if funding was included in the roads programme to upgrade the roads and footpaths in Mevue, Castle Park, Bohermore, Claddagh and Shantalla.

She was told that no funding was included in next year’s budget, but that older estates did require repair and maintenance works and that it was intended to build a budget to meet the costs required by such works.
