Friday November 19 turned out to be a phenomenal day of sales for O’Donnellan & Joyce with a wide range of properties going under the auction hammer in the company's live stream auction, and all properties selling in under an hour. Colm O’Donnellan took to the podium at the auction which was viewed live by more than 4,000 people from the comfort of their own homes and offices across Ireland and around the world.
The November property auction, which took place last week, attracted huge interest before the auction with many people inquiring about registering to bid including some international bidders as far away as the east coast of America and the United Arab Emirates. With the help of virtual tours and video walkthroughs, many people are purchasing homes without even physically viewing them. Commencing at 12 noon last Friday, bidders viewed the auction while bidding by telephone, proxy, and internet bidding. The properties which sold last week include the following.
Lot 1 – No 3 Hynes Yard, Merchants Road, Galway
Situated in the popular Hynes Yard residential development, just off Merchants Road, this three bed apartment was the star of the show on auction day. The central location was a key selling point of the property as it was within a short stroll from Eyre Square, Galway's vibrant Latin Quarter, the West End, and Quay Street. This excellent property was an investment opportunity with huge rental potential due to its location in the city centre, or it could be the perfect home. The auctioneer accepted nearly 20 bids from a total of nine bidders. The lot commenced at the AMV of €220,000 but quickly rose in increments of €5,000 to the final sale price of €295,000.
Lot 2 – No 4 Main Street, Ballyhaunis, Co Mayo
This mid-terrace building was located in the centre of Ballyhaunis town and comprised a ground floor retail unit and overhead residential accommodation of four bedrooms, kitchen, living room, and bathroom. The sale concluded at a price of €70,000.
Lot 3 – No 14 Main Street, Ballyhaunis, Co Mayo
This mid-terrace building was also located in the centre of Ballyhaunis town and similar to Lot 2, the property comprised a ground floor retail unit and overhead accommodation. Although this property requires upgrading, it attracted great attention from the market with many inquiries and bidders pre-registering to purchase the lot. After an intense bidding with more than 20 bids, the property, which commenced at the AMV of €70,000, sold for €110,000.
Lot 4 – Roskeagh, Dundalk, Co Louth
A traditional bungalow set in a rural location approximately 7km from Dundalk town.
Although the property requires total upgrading throughout it will provide a brilliant opportunity for the buyer to transform it into an attractive property.
The lot commenced at €125,000 and eventually went under the hammer for €195,000.
Lot 6 - Carrownaltore, Castlebar, Co Mayo
This substantial four bedroom detached residence located 4km from Castlebar town, just moments off the main N5, will provide the happy buyer with an excellent family home in a very convenient location to Castlebar town and all amenities. Bidding on this lot quickly concluded at a sale price of €181,000 and it is sure to become the ideal home.
Lot 8 - No 9 Ashwood Glade, Westport, Co Mayo
Located within 2km of Westport town, No 9 and No 10 Ashwood Glade comprised two terraced dwellings which were amalgamated to form one self-contained commercial unit which was previously used as a creche. This was an excellent opportunity for the purchaser to obtain a property for use as a creche facility or re-convert back into two individual three bedroom semidetached homes. The lot commenced at the AMV of €275,000 but quickly rose to the final sale price of €315,000 which was €40,000 over the reserve price.
Lot 5, Lot 9, and Lot 13 were all sets of lands which all sold on auction day.
In Co Clare, Lot 5, 16 acres of lands in Clonlara, Co Clare, was ideally suitable for grazing purposes and went under the hammer on the day for €75,000. Lot 9, lands at Commons, Duleek, Co Meath, were potential development lands situated in the centre of Duleek town and previously had planning permission for two retail and 21 residential units. The lot commenced at €225,000 and eventually went under the hammer for €305,000, which was €80,000 over its reserve price. Lot 13, 29 acres of land at Clooniffe, Moycullen, Co Galway, just 12km from Galway city will provide the buyer with the opportunity to develop the land. The sale of this land concluded at €350,000.
Lot 10 - No 13 Bowgate, Bowgate Street, Ballinrobe, Co Mayo
A two bedroom apartment situated within the Bowgate development in the centre of Ballinrobe town. Although the apartment was in poor repair and requires substantial upgrading throughout, the property was attractively priced and gathered huge interest before the auction. This property, which concluded at the sale price of €32,000, will provide the buyer with an ideal investment or starter home once renovations are complete.
There were many other sales on the day with many properties across Ireland going under the hammer. In Cootehill, Co Cavan, a well maintained three bedroom semidetached sold for €145,000. Another three bedroom semidetached residence on the outskirts of Dundrum village, close to Cashel, Co Tipperary, attracted a lot of interest and on the day it sold for €135,000. In Co Mayo, a four-bedroom residence on the outskirts of Ballina town sold for €120,000, and in Gort, Co Galway, a commercial unit with a five bed residence overhead sold for €125,000 and will provide huge range of commercial or residential uses for the new owner.
