Me Auld Flower releases second album

Connemara singer-songwriter played all instruments himself on what is truly a solo effort

THE CONNEMARA singer-songwriter, Me Auld Flower, releases his second album, The Vaults of Consciousness, Vol. II on Friday November 26.

The album is being released via Redemptress Records and despite its title and ‘Vol II’ description, Me Auld Flower says it is a different beast to his debut album. This time it was recorded entirely by the artist himself, with no other musicians, created with just the equipment and instruments he had to hand - guitars, banjo, bass, mandolin, piano, synthesiser, and percussion.

"Volume II was a completely different experience to the first,” he says. “While I didn't have the expertise of a band of amazing musicians, I found working to my own schedule really liberating. Experimenting with different instruments allowed me to pull the sounds out of my mind and into the record, exactly as I imagined them."

The album was recorded during the second half of 2020, while the first six months of this year were spent creating videos for the album’s nine songs. The videos were shot in Connemara and Galway city. Three of the videos are now on Youtube.

"Making the videos took an inordinate amount of time,” says Me Auld Flower, “but it allowed me to be present in these magical spaces in a way I had never really been before. I was getting up at four in the morning for sunrises, tracking the light throughout the day as it dipped behind clouds and mountains. I felt blessed to be living in a place with such splendour and solitude on my doorstep."

The album is available via Bandcamp
