Nutcracker Sweeties - a fresh take on a festive Ballet classic

Production to feature Galway ballet dancer, Emer Lenihan

ON CHRISTMAS Eve, Ciara and Fionn wander off from their parents during a shopping trip in Dublin, only to discover the Nutcracker doll and the Sugar Plum fairy, who lead them to the Kingdom Of The Sweets.

This is Ballet Ireland’s Nutcracker Sweeties - a new presentation of the festive classic, choreographed by Morgann Runacre-Temple - which will be staged in the Town Hall Theatre on Tuesday December 7 and Wednesday 8 at 8pm.

Performed by a cast of world-class dancers, featuring beautiful costumes, and a re-imagined Tchaikovsky score, this promises to be a night of wondrous adventure and marvellous ballet.

Among the performers will be Galwegian Emer Lenihan, an apprentice dancer with Ballet Ireland. Emer was a student of the Regina Rogers School of Ballet for 10 years before moving to the Russian Ballet Academy in London when she was only 14.

“Emer is a perfect example of a young dancer who is determined to pursue a professional career in dance,” said Regina Rogers. “She is a true inspiration to other young dancers who dream of making a career in dance. It is wonderful to see a Galway girl making such progress and we are so proud of her success.”

Tickets are €25/€22.50 from the Town Hall (091 - 569777, www.tht.ie )
