SHE HAS been compared to Julia Jacklin and Phoebe Bridgers by The Irish Times, while her debut album was declared “a work of art” by Clash magazine.
She is Ailbhe Reddy, the Irish alt-folk singer-songwriter who will play the Róisín Dubh on Saturday November 27 at 8pm.
Ailbhe released her debut album, Personal History, in October 2020 and it has since been nominated for the RTÉ Choice award for album of the year. Pitchfork noted how the album “constantly confronts us with emotional honesty, pressing on bruises that feel all too familiar”; while Line of Best Fit said it “strikes a genuine emotional chord each time it’s listened to”.
"A lot of people listen to songs and put their own interpretation on them, or come to an understanding based on things that are going on in their own lives," Reddy said of her music’s emotional rawness, in an interview with the Irish Independent. "The first time I really listened to Fiona Apple, I had that feeling: here was somebody that was writing songs that seemed to be exactly what I was seeking at the time."
After Personal History was released, Hotpress said it would mark “a crucial step on Reddy’s path to stardom”. See her take a further step forwards at her upcoming Galway show.
