BRASS EYE was a British comedy series which parodied current affairs shows. Running for seven episodes on Channel 4 from 1997 to 2001, it featured such writers as Arthur Mathews, Charlie Brooker, and David Quantick.
The show has become a cult classic, and received a new lease of life in 2017 after it's director, Michael Cumming, released a 60-minute film of unbroadcast material from the making of the series.
In 2019, Cumming came to Galway to present a screening of Oxide Ghosts, part documentary, part artwork, drawn from hundreds of hours of unseen material from Cumming’s personal Brass Eye archive. It is designed solely for live screenings.
Cumming is on his way back to Galway to present another screening of this film at the Pálás Cinema, where he will also take part in a Q&A.
Oxide Ghosts: The Brass Eye Tapes + Q&A will take place on Friday February 25 at 8pm. The film gives insights into the process of making Brass Eye, and has the approval of the show’s creator, Chris Morris.
As Chortle.co.uk said, the film "offers a well-judged and very rare insight into Brass Eye’s making, encapsulating the fun and covert excitement that went on while the project was still under wraps, before all the legal wrangling kicked in".
