FOLLOWING A triumphant return earlier this year with their acclaimed second album, Awake You Lie, Wyvern Lingo return to the road and play Galway this month.
The Wicklow trio - Caoimhe Barry, Karen Cowley and Saoirse Duane - play the Róisín Dubh on Saturday November 20 at 8pm.
The band have become one of the most prominent and highly regarded in Ireland for their mix of r’n’b, pop-funk, indie, and vocal harmonies, with a Feminist point of view on contemporary Irish life. Their self-titled debut album from 2018 was nominated for the Choice Music prize.
Awake You Lie, which came out in February this year, was recorded in Berlin pre-COVID, with the final tweaks managed in lockdown Ireland.
“A recurring image during this album writing process was light, the lack thereof, and wanting to see things more clearly, for ourselves and others,” said the band. “We called the album, Awake You Lie, because it evokes an image of night-time when someone should be sleeping but can’t, due to restlessness or worry. Things are always clearer in the light of day."
Awake You Lie was showered with praise upon its release. Lauren Murphy in The Irish Times called it, ”a beacon for all those feeling lost”; Hotpress declared it, “a thing of beauty altogether”; while The Last Mixed Tape said it was “alive with colour and shape...lush harmony-led songwriting through a bold sonic prism”.
