Salthill return to the top

It remains a hugely competitive Galway FA premier division

A particularly interesting Galway FA premier division campaign continues with Victor Collins' Salthill Devon edging to the top of table.

Five victories and two draws is a decent record for Salthill, who survived an awkward assignment away to Colemanstown United.

Salthill eventually triumphed 4-2 with Mick Lee (2 ), Vinny Faherty, and Rory Brennan providing the goals.

Galway Hibernians, making significant strides in recent weeks, enjoyed a fine 3-1 win over Mervue United at Fahy's Field.

Jason McDonagh, Jay McPhilbin, and Shane Hulgraine scored for Stephen Walsh's side with the prolific Enda Curran grabbing a consolation effort for Mervue.

Maree/Oranmore are beginning to generate some momentum and belief with the 3-2 win over Loughrea offering further encouragement. Brendan Tully, Princewell Diala, and Liam McDonagh scored for Maree/Oranmore with Anthony Byrnes and Daryl Hayden replying for Loughrea.

Corrib Celtic and Tuam Celtic divided the spoils following a 2-2 draw. Shane Concannon and Keith Greaney struck for the Annaghdown side, while Ben O'Connell and Luke Higgins bagged for Tuam.

At the Westside Corrib Rangers produced a dynamic display to overcome St Bernard's 4-1. Shane Sutton, Geoffrey Power, Hamza Celik, and Nigel Moran were on target for Rangers with Paddy Mullins summoning Bernard's response.

In Moonbaun Athenry led West United 4-2 late on when the game was abandoned due to a leg injury. Peter Finnerty, Adam Duffy (2 ), and Ray Moran netted for Seamie Crowe's Athenry with Matthew Barrett and Niall Martyn supplying West's goals.

Another crucial weekend beckons with Athenry hosting Tuam and Hibs facing Colemanstown on Saturday afternoon.

The following morning Rangers' tussle with Salthill should be lively, while West's clash against Maree-Oranmore is an important encounter for both clubs. St Bernard's versus Corrib Celtic is also on the agenda in Abbeyknockmoy.
