I have to confess my expectations were high. A few months ago, my wife and daughter had stayed in Brooks Hotel, and returned to Galway wondering why anyone visiting Dublin would stay anywhere else.
Its the little things that count.
On that visit, a birthday shopping treat for our twenty one year old daughter and her mother (of course ), they had checked out of the hotel, when my daughter realised she had mislaid a receipt for an item she had purchased the previous day, and now wished to return. It was some time since they left the hotel, and felt there was not much point in returning to search for the lost receipt. However, back to Brooks Hotel they went. They were welcomed as if arriving for the first time, and a major search was undertaken by a number of staff to find the lost receipt.
‘We were not surprised how helpful the staff were’ they told us when they came home, ‘having seen the way they looked after the hotel guests during our stay’.
With the uncertainty due to the pandemic continuing to overshadow foreign travel, this is a good time to become a tourist in our own land, and where better to start than in our capital city.
Perfect location for Christmas shopping trip
‘Grafton Street’s a wonderland…..’. The first thing that strikes you on approaching Brooks Hotel is the location. A two minute stroll from Grafton Street, there cannot be a more suitably located hotel for anyone visiting our capital city. Owned by the Sinnott family, who previously owned the Connemara Coast and Connemara Gateway hotels, this award winning four star hotel has very strong Galway connections.
Managed by Ann McKiernan, a GMIT graduate with close links to Galway, having previously worked in a number of hotels in the city of the tribes, including the aforementioned Connemara Coast, the staff, along with the location and the hotel itself, are clearly the key to the success of Brooks Hotel. At a time when staffing in the hospitality industry is a hot topic, the staff at Brook’s Hotel put the customer at the heart of everything they do. Experienced, knowledgable, friendly and welcoming: when chatting to General Manager Anne, and her colleague Anne Kinsella, Front Office Manager, it is clear why guests return again and again to the hotel.

Food and Drink
‘A stroll in Stephen’s Green…’. When you stay at Brooks Hotel, many of Dublin’s best restaurants and bars are literally on your doorstep. The Ivy, Marco Pierre White, Fade Street Social, Hugo’s and Peploe’s are just some of the restaurants within a few minutes walk of the hotel. There is also an A list of Dublin pubs close to the hotel, or, for the more adventurous, wander for all of five minutes down to Baggot St and have a drink in one of the most iconic parts of Dublin. If your trip to the hotel includes dinner, you wont be disappointed. Francesca’s Restaurant, with its open plan kitchen, under the expert care of award winning head chef, Patrick McLarnon produces organic and artisan dishes with locally sourced ingredients.

The hotel’s Jasmine Bar, voted one of the ‘Great Whisky Bars of the world’ by Whisky magazine, and part of the Whiskey Trail of Ireland, offers the opportunity to relax and enjoy one of a hundred different whiskies from around the world, exotic cocktails and also delicious dishes.

No getting away from Galway
Continuing the Galway association with the hotel, much of the bedroom and public area joinery is supplied by Beola Crafts based in Roundstone, and Calwood Design Studios based in Galway.
Rooms at the hotel vary from Classic and Deluxe to Executive Bedrooms and suites, and the answer always seems to be ‘yes’, no matter what you are looking for. From free Wi-Fi to king size beds, flat screen TV, power shower, safe, fridge, trouser press, ironing board and air conditioning, nothing is overlooked in the variety of rooms available.
As a very light sleeper, I am always anxious to get a quiet room when booking a hotel in the city centre. Once retiring for the night at Brooks Hotel, I didn’t hear a sound. For a city centre location, the hotel is extremely quiet, and there is very little traffic on Drury Street.
Guests can park in the car park directly opposite the hotel at a discounted 24 hour rate of €12.50
Brooks is a 4 star hotel that consistently achieves 5 star ratings from its guests.
Over 92% of Tripadvisor reviews, of which there are well over 2,800, classified the hotel as ‘excellent' or very good’.
Recent guest reviews have described the hotel as a ‘gem’, ‘fabulous’, ‘wonderful’, ‘great service’, 'highly recommend’, ‘charm and class’.
I couldn’t agree more.
