United U17s reach Mark Farren Cup decider

Martin Devlin's team defeated Shelbourne at Tolka Park

At the end of June when the national underage leagues made a welcome return Galway United U17s suffered a comprehensive 1-4 loss to Shelbourne at Eamonn Deacy Park.

It was an afternoon when Damien Duff's talented team delivered an accomplished display, but since then Martin Devlin's outfit has made considerable progress.

Saturday's Mark Farren Cup 3-1 semi-final victory over Shels at Tolka Park illustrated just how far United's squad has travelled.

Mikey McCullagh, who scored in a first team friendly against Athenry, bagged a brace, while David Tarmey added another goal to the collection.

Tarmey has netted nine times for Devlin's side, who will now face Cork City in the decider.

Xavi Vazquez's United U14 team host St Patrick's Athletic in a league quarter-final on Saturday.

Jacob Carroll provided the only goal of the game when United clashed with Pat's in June. The following month they played out a scoreless draw so another keenly contested clash is anticipated.

Brendan O'Connor's United U19s face Bohemians on Sunday.

Galway WFC U17s lost 1-0 to Peamount on Saturday and now face Treaty United at Dangan this weekend.
