Giving and enjoying at the same time — Pink Ladies Afternoon Tea at the g

BY DECLAN VARLEY

Who would have thought that such a perfect oasis of calm could be created in the midst of an afternoon in October, but the g Hotel offers that in the varied beautiful lounges created by Philip Treacy — all of which have stood the test of time in terms of chicness and luxury.

One of these, the Pink Ladies Lounge has been the venue for many stylish events over its lifetime and this month, it is giving back to the community by being the venue for a fundraiser that allows you to donate and enjoy at the same time.

If you want to combine giving generously for a good cause, with a wonderful culinary experience for yourself and a friend, then you should partake in the Pink Ladies Afternoon Tea which is being offered in the g Hotel for the month of October.

The event is to raise funds for Breast Cancer Ireland which is spearheading the drive to create awareness of the illness and to raise funds for research into its causes.

The Pink Ladies Afternoon Tea at €32.00 per person is served daily from 12noon to 16.30 pm daily and offers a delightful array of sweets, savouries and wonderful teas from across the globe.

I opted for the Granny's Garden, made with fully fresh rhubarb and rounded off with the delicate sweetness of vanilla. Gorgeous. While my dining partner had the g Melange, an extravagant broken leaf with a multitude of golden tips and the richest of aromas.

With two glasses of Champagne Taittinger to give it a greater sense of occasion, we tucked into the selection of savoury bites which included roast chicken with sundried tomato and basil; baked beetroot and whipped goats cheese; glazed pork belly with charred apple on focaccia; Dublin Bay prawns, Marie Rose sauce on soda bread.

The sweet treats were mouth-watering, including delicacies with cherry mousse; raspberry Bakewell; strawberry meringue and cascarpone cream; white chocolate eclair and coconut shortbread.

For every afternoon tea bought, the hotel will donate €2 to Breast Cancer Ireland and €1 for every glass of Champagne Taittinger Prestige Rose sold.

You can enhance your afternoon tea experience with a glass of Champagne Taittinger for just €22.00 per glass or €95.00 per bottle.
