An evening of Mozart at NUI Galway

Christian Blackshaw, a leading performer of the music of Mozart to play annual Emily Anderson concert

CHRISTIAN BLACKSHAW, one of the foremost interpreters and performers of Mozart at work today, will perform at Music for Galway’s annual Emily Anderson concert.

The concert will take place in the Emily Anderson Concert Hall, NUI Galway, on Friday October 22 at 8pm. The hall is named after Emily Anderson, daughter of Alexander Anderson, the then president of what was called Queens College Galway. She grew up in the Quadrangle, and went on to become the first professor of German at the college, and famously translated and edited the letters of Mozart and Beethoven - an invaluable resource to scholars.

For this concert, Blackshaw will perform the Fantasie in Dm K.397, the Rondo in D K.485, Adagio in Bm K.540, and the sonatas in F K.332, C K.545, and Cm K.457.

Blackshaw’s playing combines tremendous emotional depth with great understanding. His hugely acclaimed Wigmore Hall complete Mozart Piano Sonatas series of albums have been described as “landmark” recordings, and hailed as “captivating”, “magical” and “masterful” by critics.

Volume 4 was named as one of the Best Classical Recordings of 2015 by The New York Times, in addition to Gramophone magazine's Top 50 Greatest Mozart Recordings.

Tickets are €20/18/16/6 via 091 - 705962 or www.musicforgalway.ie
