Le Petit Orb - Alex Paterson in concert and in conversation

The Orb reimagined for an intimate evening where fans get to choose the set-list

NECESSITY IS the mother of invention they say, and The Orb’s Alex Paterson has proved as inventive in reimagining his career in a time of pandemic, as he has been forward thinking in more than 30 years of music making.

The Orb, the band who “virtually invented the electronic genre known as ambient house”, as allmusic.com said; who are best known for the classic psychedelic single, ‘Little Fluffy Clouds’; and whose admirers include Pink floyd guitarist David Gilmour, will be coming to the Róisín Dubh next month, though in a form you might not expect.

As the UK’s second lockdown was imposed, Alex Paterson, The Orb’s founder, knew he needed to find a way to get back out there, reconnect with fans, and perform live.

Never one to sit still, Alex used the time to launch his new label, Orbscure Records; perform two groundbreaking online holographic shows; and release his biography, Babble On An’ Ting, in collaboration with author Kris Needs.

However, the desire to perform live remained a constant itch to scratch, so Paterson revisited a previous Orb incarnation - Le Petit Orb (first debuted in the 1990s at Glastonbury ) - an Orb capable of playing smaller venues, providing an intimate within which to reconnect with fans.

Le Petit Orb is coming to Galway where Paterson, along with Michael Rendall, and Deep Visual Lighting, will perform a setlist chosen by audience members (voting information provided to ticket holders ), and will include a Q&A session and interview with Alex Paterson.

Le Petit Orb live show and ‘Alex Paterson in Conversation’ takes place on Monday November 22 at 8pm in the Róisín Dubh. Tickets are available from www.roisindubh.net
