Just Mustard - January 2022 show for the Róisín Dubh

Robert Smith approved band are shaping up to be one of the great Irish indie acts of today

JUST MUSTARD might not be one of the great band names, but Just Mustard are shaping up to be one of the great indie-rock bands of our times.

Since forming in 2016, the Dundalk quintet - Katie Ball (vocals ), David Noonan (guitar ), Mete Kalyon (guitar ), Rob Clarke (bass ), and Shane Maguire (drums ) - have seen their debut album, Wednesday, nominated for the Choice Music Prize Irish Album of the Year. NME called it “a two-toned masterpiece”, while the Irish Independent described it as“a swirling atmosphere-heavy thrill-ride”.

The band’s heady blend of noise, trip hop, and electronic music has led them to be signed by Partisan Records, the home of Idles and Fontaines DC. The single ‘Frank/October’ was ‘Song Of The Day’ on KEXP and BBC Radio 1 named it ‘Tune Of The Week’.

Their live sets at Brighton’s Great Escape Festival were described as “worth waiting for” (The Independent ) and “cinematic at every turn” (Gigwise ), while their Primavera performance saw them hailed by the NME as one of it’s ‘12 best acts’.

And if further proof were needed that this band matters, no less a man than Robert Smith chose them to support The Cure at their Malahide Castle concert.

Galway will see what the fuss is about when Just Mustard play the Róisín Dubh on Friday January 21 at 8pm. For tickets go to www.roisindubh.net
