Interesting weekend ahead in local premier division

Mervue United host Tuam Celtic on Saturday

Table toppers Salthill Devon face a tricky assignment away to Corrib Celtic in the Galway FA premier division on Sunday (11am ).

The Annaghdown based club defeated Maree-Oranmore in their last league fixture and will be hoping to test Victor Collins' talented Salthill squad.

Corrib Rangers', who overcame Knocknacarra FC away in the FAI Junior Cup, host Loughrea at the Westside.

Jimmy Jennings' charges, with Geoffrey Power providing a potent attacking threat, will be striving to claim another league success on home turf.

A defiant Loughrea defeated Tuam Celtic either side of narrow defeats to St Bernard's and champions Athenry.

The meeting of a youthful Maree-Oranmore and Colemanstown carries real significance for two clubs chasing a first league win of the campaign.

On Saturday Noel McDonnell's Mervue United face Tuam Celtic, who overcame West United in the FAI Junior Cup.

That was a hugely encouraging result for Tuam, who have collected three points from their first four league fixtures.

Since losing to Salthill on the opening weekend Mervue, with Enda Curran in prolific form, have beaten Maree-Oranmore, Corrib Celtic, and Colemanstown.

There is a nice blend of emerging and established players in the Mervue squad, but they will afford recently promoted Tuam the utmost respect.

Jake Begley (2 ), Jason Molloy (2 ), Shane Keogh, and Lewis Waweru netted for Mervue in a convincing FAI Junior Cup triumph over West B.

Athenry, who want to embark on another lengthy run in that competition, were too strong for Corofin with Elliott Langan (2 ), Liam Kelly (2 ), Cole Connolly, Peter Finnerty, and Garbhan Broughall contributing goals.
