Public urged to attend to attend and help build a movement that highlights the joy in our community and fights for rights and dignities still to be achieved’

Galway Community Pride is inviting the public to iits AGM, which takes place tomorrow, Friday September 30, at 7pm in Conradh na Gaeilge, Dominick Street.

The chair of Pride, Galway City East councillor, Owen Hanley, encouraged people to take part in the AGM. "Whether you'd like to be a member of the Pride 2022 committee, a volunteer, or just have a passion for the LGBT+ community, we'd urge everyone to come along,” he said. “It's always a very supportive atmosphere and we all share a common goal of building a brighter future for LGBT+ people in Galway."

.

The AGM will hear a report of the year's activities and the election of a new committee. Local LGBT+ Resource Group AMACH LGBT+ will also provide a summary of its past year.

Over the past 12 months, Galway Pride managed to celebrate its second Winter Pride in December 2020 and a successful Pride week in August. However, the community had also faced challenges with the closure of the LGBT+ Resource Centre Teach Solais on Merchant's Road.

"The LGBT+ community has a chance to reconnect, as public health restrictions ease, to build a movement that highlights the joy in our community and fights for rights and dignities still to be achieved,” said Cllr Hanley. “Pride is a celebration of the entire LGBTQIA+ community and needs new people, new ideas, and new energy."
