People can learn leadership skills, boost their confidence, and gain a better understanding of what shapes society and communities by taking part in a forthcoming course.
Training for Transformation, which is being run by Pernet CLG, is a community leadership programme designed to provide people and community groups with the skills to achieve their goals.
The 12-session interactive course will begin on Thursday September 23 and will run every second Thursday, on Zoom, from 7.30pm to 9pm. The cost is €40.
The programme centres on a belief in the dignity of each person and in their capacity to make a contribution to their community.
The course seeks to develop the following qualities in the participants:
A strong sense of self-confidence in what they have to offer;
Understanding of forces shaping society and communities;
Leadership skills in working with others to achieve goals.
Five areas of learning are brought together in the programme:
• Personal growth
• Group skills
• Social analysis
• Community leadership
• Organisational development
People who attended the course previously, said it helped them become more confident when expressing their opinions, realise the importance of focusing on the areas in which they have influence, and facilitate decision-making in groups.
The course is run using the basic principle that “none of us is as smart as all of us” and uses peer learning, according to the organisers.
“As well as offering new information and insights, this method draws out the insights and experiences of the participants, which encompasses their experiences from their wider social and community involvements. This results in new information and insights being gained by the group.”
