Oui love Galway — French journalists hold board meeting

Galway received another tourism boost this week when an association of leading French journalists chose it as the venue for its annual board meeting.

Invited by Tourism Ireland in France, the group - Groupement des Grands Regionaux - GGR - comprises editors from all the major regional newspapers in France.

It was only the second time the association has held a board meeting outside France.

The meeting took place in the Abbeyglen Castle Hotel in Clifden, while the journalists took some time out to enjoy a tour of the gardens at Kylemore Abbey and also had the chance to sample some local fare at Moran’s Oyster Cottage in Kilcolgan. They also met with Deputy Mayor of Galway, Councillor Catherine Connolly.

Billy Condon of Tourism Ireland France said the group included some of the most influential writers in France.

“Collectively they reach an audience of more than three million French consumers so this visit provides us with an invaluable opportunity to showcase Galway and the island of Ireland as a premier holiday destination.

“France is an important source of visitors and tourism revenue for Ireland. Right now in France, Tourism Ireland is pulling out all the stops to win business for this year and to keep Galway and the island of Ireland top of mind with the French consumer.”
