United manager Caulfield agrees new deal

John Caulfield will remain in charge of Galway United

Galway United manager John Caulfield has signed a new contract with the SSE Airtricity League first division club.

Caulfield, who was appointed as United boss in August 2020, remains excited about significant promise that exists in the west of Ireland.

"It is fantastic, I am really thrilled," Caulfield says. "I came in just over 12 months ago, at the time the board said come in until the end of last season and this season to see where we are at.

"Massive structures have been put in place. Obviously the chairman Jonathan Corbett and the board have backed me, they want me to drive on.

"We have a strong management team in place - obviously Lisa Fallon came in as head coach, we have Danny Broderick, Luca Ami, and Colin Fortune.

"The most important thing for us is we want to see can we bring success to the club. We said from the day we came in we could see potential here, but now we have solid structures in place, and we just want to bring it to the next level."

Caulfield is encouraged about the passionate response of Galway United followers.

"Since I have come in the support around the city and county has been phenomenal, commercially with sponsors," he adds. "Our ordinary supporters can see the club is really trying to do things right, to drive forward.

"The fact that the club have committed to me to stay for two more years, they like what they see. It is great for myself, it gives that confidence and it just gives you that inner drive that you really want to deliver for the club.

"While there is a massive amount of hard work, we are really enthusiastic, a huge two and a bit seasons for us to go. Hopefully we can bring that success to the club."
