Irish Water is working with Galway City Council to carry out urgent repairs to maintain water supply following a burst watermain on Siobhan McKenna Road. Crews are working to repair the burst watermain supplying the Clifton Hill and Tonabrucky reservoirs as quickly and as safely as possible.
Customers in University Road, Lower Salthill, Salthill, Knocknacarra, Barna, Moycullen and surrounding areas will experience disruption to their supply such as low water pressure and water outages today, Tuesday 7 September, while the repairs are underway. Dedicated water service crews have mobilised and repairs are expected to be completed today.
Typically it takes two to three hours after repairs are completed to restore normal supply to all customers affected by an unplanned outage but it is important to continue to follow the HSE guidance on hand-washing. To ensure the safety of the public and crews carrying out the repairs to the burst, traffic management will be in place and will be clearly signposted.
Irish Water is encouraging customers to conserve water while these essential works are underway. There are ways to conserve water that will not impact on hygiene or handwashing. Simple water conservation efforts can have a big impact on reducing demand on the supply such as not running taps needlessly, taking showers instead of baths and to postpone using dishwashers and washing machines where possible.
