Luke Dennison's first touch as a Galway United goalkeeper was making a penalty save at Stradbrook against Cabinteely.
A penalty and red card to Conor Kearns threatened to disturb United in the capital, but Dennison denied Keith Dalton ensuring Mikie Rowe’s goal was the decisive blow.
United head coach Lisa Fallon acknowledged Dennison’s important contribution. “I’m sure it is one he will remember, Luke is a great lad, he works really hard in training,” she says.
“He pushes Kearnsy all of the time, every day the two of them work so hard together. We are really pleased for him, he came in, he did the job that he needed to do in that situation.
The character United demonstrated delighted Fallon. “This team has that in spades,” she adds. “You know in this league that you have to earn the right to win every game. There is no easy game, every game is going to be a battle.
“While the nature of the games will be different, you still have to be able to do the dirty work, to get what has to be done, to get that done. Everyone was absolutely brilliant, they stuck in there, they did the work, and they got the rewards. I’m really pleased for them with that.”
