Tributes paid to Annaghdown man after fatal Cornamona accident

The Annaghdown community is in shock this week after the death of a popular local man in a traffic collision in Cornamona last weekend.

Keen cyclist John O’Malley from Baranna, Annaghdown, who was originally from Louisburgh in Mayo, was cycling when he was struck by a car on the R354 on Sunday afternoon.

A married man with two daughters, Mr O’Malley was taking part in a leisure event organised by Cunga Cycling Club, based in Cong.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to contact them. They are also appealing to any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam ) and were travelling on the R345 near Corr Na Mona at this time, to make this footage available to them.

Mr O’Malley is survived by his wife Mary, daughters Fiona and Caitriona; his parents James and Nora, brothers Tony, Seamus, Eamonn and Dermot, and sister Catherine. He will be buried in Cregg Cemetery after Mass in Annaghdown Church at noon today (Thursday ). The Mass can be viewed on churchtv.ie/annaghdown Tributes were paid to him this week from friends, neighbours, and those who met him through work and cycling, with many speaking of his courtesy, his calm nature and his willingness to help others.
