THE GPO on Eglinton Street has a wealth of events to coincide with the Volvo Ocean Race stopover, including a DJ set from The Mighty Boosh’s Mike Fielding, to keep Galway dancing while the yachts are in town.
DJ Ferg will kick off the festivities on Saturday with Mark M in Drum. On Sunday, the band Gorilla Radio will play a live set with DJ Eric in Drum. On Monday 25 it’s DJs Mark M and Stroller.
There will be plenty of craic on Tuesday 26 when DJ Mark Cunning hosts a night of Karaoke in Drum. It’s back to the 1980s on Wednesday 27 with DJs Eric and Brick Flanders. There will also be a special cocktail promotion at the Captain’s Table in the GPO. On Thursday 28 Padraig Flaherty and Ferg will be spinning the decks.
Cut La Roc will perform a DJ set on Friday 29 with support from Ger Z. Then on Saturday 30 there’s a treat in store when The Mighty Boosh’s Mike Fielding (who plays Naboo ) performs a DJ set with KC on support duties from 11pm.
On Sunday 31 Jon Carter, whose sets can include anything, including tunes from the Scots’ Guards and Glenn Campbell, will be DJing with Ferg and Eric in Drum. On Monday June 1, the ever popular S***e Night returns at 11pm with all the songs you love to hate. Fancy dress is recommended.
On Tuesday 2 Mark Cunning is back to host more Karaoke. Eric and Brick Flanders play more 1980s’ hits on Wednesday 3. Padraig Flaherty is back on Thursday 4.
110th Street (Cian and Cyril, aka SiSi ) will be DJing on Friday 5 while Ferg will host an Ocean Race closing party in GPO on Saturday 6.
Admission to the GPO is free every night before 12 midnight for the duration of the Volvo Ocean Race stopover with a GPO stamp/sticker (complimentary pass ). GPO promo crew will be on the streets giving out Ocean Race stickers/stamps.
GPO events start at 11pm. The pre-parties in Drum kick off at 9pm. Drum customers will also get into GPO for free.
