Students are returning to Galway, and many are struggling to find accommodation. Again, the start of college has “laid bare the fact that the housing system in Galway is at a breaking point”.
This is the view of Sinn Féin Galway West TD Mairéad Farrell, who said “urgent action” is needed in the city to combat the ongoing housing crisis.
“Students are returning to campus after a year of remote learning, only to find that there are extremely limited affordable options for accommodation,” she said. “I am contacted every day by people from all walks of life who are struggling to find housing. These are people who are contacting multiple landlords every single day and getting turned away. It is soul-crushing.”
