Cup quarter-final on the agenda for Galway WFC

The game will be streamed live on www.loitv.ie

An eagerly anticipated FAI Cup quarter-final takes place at Eamonn Deacy Park on Saturday evening when Galway WFC host DLR Waves (7.30pm ).

Stephen Lally's improving team drew 0-0 in the WNL against Bohemians at the weekend and the Galway WFC boss is relishing the upcoming clash with DLR Waves, who have made significant progress under Graham Kelly.

"It is a huge game for the club," Lally says. "Since I came in we have tried to stabilise what we have, to get as high up the table as we possibly can with a view to hopefully getting a cup run. That is what we have been preparing for in training."

Lally is encouraged by Galway's recent displays during the past couple of months. "We are delighted with the improvement we have made," he says.

"Everyone feels that within the group, we feel that we are moving in the right direction. Confidence is high even though it was a bit disappointing the last day that we did not score.

"We felt we deserved to win the Bohs game, we should have won the game, we should have put it to bed, but we did not. So the result was disappointing - that we did not win the game.

"Against the lower teams we feel we are much better than them, but we have not beaten a lot of them even since I came in.

"We have held our own against the top teams, we have improved against them. It is about putting the ball in the net, in fairness we have not always done that."

With a blend of youth and experience in the squad, Lally has tough selection decisions to make. "The problem is that every game is so important," Lally replies. "It is very difficult to be getting players in and out, you are trying to look to switch things.

"You are looking forward to the cup, you are looking at where you will play players, and in what positions. You are trying to win the game and also look ahead to the following week.

"You would love to get more U19s on, but you have to be fair to the other girls too - they have to play also."
