Chiropractix Galway has been helping Galway patients to feel their very best for many years, supporting optimum back, neck, and joint health for clients of all ages across the city and county. Chiropractix recently commissioned research to see how pain was affecting people’s ability to exercise, and discovered that frequent pain prevents almost one third of adults in Ireland from taking part in sport as much as they would like. It is even higher among 18 to 24 year olds at 36 per cent.
However, just 22 per cent of people say they would book an appointment with a GP, physiotherapist, or chiropractor. Forty two per cent of respondents say they manage it with painkillers, while another significant proportion (42 per cent ) ignore it or ‘work through’ the pain.
The research found that 40 per cent of adults are planning to recommence fitness or start a new sport this summer, with this increasing to 59 per cent of 18 to 24 year olds. However, 43 per cent of respondents suffer from frequent pain. This is highest among adults aged 45 to 54 with nearly half (49 per cent ) suffering from frequent pain.
Dr. Paul Bradley, clinical director, Chiropractix, said: “This time of year many of us are keen to get outside and enhance our health and fitness. However, for a lot of people, pain can get in the way. Our research shows that many people ‘grin and bear’ it but that will only exacerbate the problem. The good news is we are here to help. Realignment of your joints and practising correct posture will help to manage pain and allow you to really enjoy being active.”
Among Chiropractix clients are high profile athletes including Olympic swimmer Shane Ryan, pro-rugby star James Connolly, who used to play for Connacht, and Olympian David Gillick, who is one of Ireland’s most successful sprint athletes.
