QuinnBet’s Gerry Shannon previews the Galway Hurdle

Thursday of the Galway races plays host to the famous ladies’ day where fashion enthusiasts will be vying for the top prizes on offer. Obviously, this time around the judges will have an easier time of picking the best dressed due to the reduced attendance, but no doubt competition will still be fierce.

On the track itself, the prestigious Galway hurdle will be the feature today with the Cheltenham winner Belfast Banter going to be popular in the market. The six-year-old has done nothing wrong this year with his Grade 3 win followed up by a Grade 1 win in Aintree. He ticks the box of course form and will appreciate a description of soft in the going.

Another lively contender will be Zero Ten trained by the shrewd Emmett Mullins. The owners love a Galway winner and a race as big as this will surely be on their radar. Zero Ten is due to run in a flat maiden on Monday of the festival and if the gelding comes out well out of that with a good run, connections will be happy.

The story of the year Skyace is also enhancing the pedigree in this race and will certainly be a popular betting proposition. Others at the bottom of the handicap with a shout and at likely bigger odds will be the Willie Mullin’s pair Dysart Diamond & Tax for Max. Final declarations haven’t been declared at the time of writing but if these two get in they may reward each way punters.
