Crowe calls for age friendly parking spaces across the city

The ‘outdoor summer’ has placed “an even greater pressure on parking spaces across the city”

Galway should follow the example of Cork, Carlow, and Wicklow, by introducing age friendly parking spaces, reserved for people aged 65 and older.

This is the view of Fianna Fáil Galway senator, Ollie Crowe [pictured below], who believes such a move will “increase accessibility to public spaces and essential services for older people”.

He noted that with this being the ‘outdoor summer’, owing to the Covid pandemic, there has been “an even greater pressure on parking spaces across the city”, and he said a number of older people have spoken to him about the difficulties this has created.

.

“Spaces are needed near public amenities such as beaches and parks, but we also need to improve accessibility to essential services such as post offices and supermarkets,” he said. “This is a relatively straightforward step. It would also make Galway more attractive to older visitors.”

Sen Crowe has contacted the Galway City Council requesting it examine the matter.
