A weight has been lifted for slimmers from Galway, Clarinbridge, and Gort as they are an incredible 1,029lb lighter since returning to their real-life Slimming World groups in June.
Consultant Maura is delighted to be back helping members to lose weight and improve their health in person, and the results on the scales show just how much members are loving being back together too.
“I reopened my groups in the Menlo Park Hotel, Clarinbridge, and Gort on June 2, after I’d been supporting members virtually in online weekly groups since January, when the last lockdown closed our community groups again," Maura said. "We’ve put measures in place to comply fully with all Government guidance to ensure members are safe, happy, and comfortable being back at our group. Because we can’t meet in groups due to the current restrictions, we have set up temporary venue and virtual groups which means that members can still come and weigh in and talk about how they are doing. It’s been absolutely amazing to come back together again, it’s proven that there really is no better feeling than the magic of a real-life Slimming World group and the amazing results speak for themselves – a combined 76.5 stone lost between them since June.
“Members told me they had really missed being together in person. Plus, we know that there is something powerful about stepping on the scales each week and having that regular check-in on your progress.
“The past year has been far from easy for all of us, with some people struggling more than others, but for lots of my members all of the challenges and anxieties have actually made them more determined than ever to achieve their goals and improve their health. They have proved anyone wanting to lose weight and feel healthier – which research shows could protect against disease – doesn’t have to give up on their dreams. I can’t wait to see how much we can all lose by the end of 2021.”
Member Regina O’Keeffe, who joined Maura’s group in January, has lost 2 stone 7.5lbs in total since then. “Like a lot of people, I found lockdown challenging and gained a few extra pounds," she said. "With so much in the news about weight and associated health risks including Covid-19, I wanted to make a healthy new start and take my health into my own hands. I came back to Maura’s group in January and I haven’t looked back since.
“I know it can be nerve-wracking to walk into a Slimming World group for the first time, especially at the moment, but I can assure anyone who is worrying about their weight that there’s no judgment at Slimming World, just respect and care – and it’s absolutely safe.”
Maura added: “In our Slimming World group, you’ll discover the freedom to enjoy foods you love, and still lose weight. You’ll also find out how to become more active in a way that suits your lifestyle.”
To cater for more new and returning members, Maura is expanding her groups from Tuesday July 27. She now runs both morning and evening sessions in the Menlo Park Hotel every Tuesday. She also has a morning group in Gort Community Centre every Thursday, and an evening one in Labane Hall, Ardrahan, every Thursday. “If you’re worrying about your weight and you’d love to feel healthier and happier, don’t give up," she said. "Don’t put it off. Our Slimming World group is here and getting together every week. We’d love to be celebrating another huge weight loss milestone by the New Year, so if you are thinking of joining, come and be part of that success – you’ll be welcomed by every one of us.”
